Nissan has completely remodeled the Altima midsize sedan, so it’s almost a better question to ask what isn’t new with this year’s model. Everything from the engine to the body to the feature list has gone through a full overhaul, giving Nissan buyers a fully modern option when they go looking for a new car. The list of differences is long, but the following list offers a few of the highlights.

What’s New with the Nissan Altima | Fishers Nissan Dealer

Two Engine Options

The 2019 Altima has two engine choices. Both come with four cylinders, but one uses a turbocharger to deliver a lot more horsepower and torque. The basic 2.5-liter engine has 188 horsepower, 9 more than the 2018 engine offered, and it uses slightly less gas per mile. The 2.0-liter turbo engine gives you up to 248 horsepower. That’s not as much what you got from the V-6 engine available on last year’s model, but the new engine gives the Altima 3 more city and 2 more highway mpg.

All-Wheel Drive Available for Every Model

The new Nissan Altima comes standard with front-wheel drive, but you can upgrade any trim with the standard engine to come with all-wheel drive. That’s not a common sight on a midsize sedan, and while it slightly reduces the gas mileage it significantly improves the traction by letting the car shift engine torque when your wheels start slipping.

The Infotainment System

Previously, the standard infotainment display was a 5-inch model and could get an upgrade to a 7-inch display. However, the 2020Altima gives you an 8-inch display on every model. With it come standard features like Siri Eyes-Free, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Top trims add a navigation system, satellite radio, and voice recognition. You can also upgrade the sound system with nine Bose speakers and active noise cancellation.

Edition ONE

Edition ONE is a special-edition trim available for the first year of the new Nissan Altima model. It comes with appearance upgrades like branded floor mats, unique gray 19-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and ground lighting. The Edition ONE also comes with a special concierge service exclusive to the trim. This service lets you call a professional concierge team that can tell you where to find the best restaurant in town or the fastest route to get around traffic, and they can help you out by booking reservations or tickets at your request.

Intelligent Mobility

The new Altima comes with some advanced new driver assistance features. The Intelligent Forward Collision Warning system watches two cars ahead for sudden slowdowns or stops, and available Emergency Automatic Braking can help you stop in time by reacting faster than a human can. Then there’s the available ProPILOT Assist, a feature that automatically keeps you in your lane and maintaining a safe following distance.

A lot has changed with the Nissan Altima models thanks to the redesign. With extra safety features, better on-board technology, all-wheel drive, and efficient engines, the new Altima has become one of the best midsize sedans on the market.
