Engine Details

The 1.5L VC-Turbo engine is built for responsive, fuel-efficient performance across a range of driving conditions. As the world’s first mass-market variable compression engine, it can alter its compression ratio in real time—delivering both power and efficiency when needed. This innovative turbocharged 3-cylinder engine serves as the exclusive powertrain for the 2025 Rogue, offering up to 225 lb-ft of torque while maintaining excellent fuel economy.

Variable Compression Turbo (VC-Turbo)

This patented Nissan technology continuously adjusts the compression ratio between 8:1 and 14:1. At low loads, a higher compression ratio improves fuel efficiency. Under acceleration, the ratio lowers to increase power and torque. The shift is seamless, giving drivers the best of both worlds.

Direct Injection

The direct injection system delivers fuel straight into the combustion chamber at high pressure. This helps optimize combustion, reduce knock, and increase both horsepower and fuel efficiency. The system is managed electronically to adjust fuel delivery based on engine load.

Mirror Bore Coating

Borrowed from the Nissan GT-R engine, this specialized coating reduces friction and enhances thermal conductivity inside the cylinder bores. The result is lower engine weight, reduced wear, and improved heat management during sustained use.

Integrated Exhaust Manifold

The exhaust manifold is built directly into the cylinder head, allowing the engine to warm up faster. This promotes better thermal management, reduced emissions at cold start, and improved efficiency under various driving conditions.

Dual CVTCS

Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) adjusts intake and exhaust valve timing based on driving demand. This improves throttle response, low-end torque, and overall engine smoothness—especially in urban or stop-and-go driving.

Intelligent Drive Features

Paired with Nissan’s Xtronic CVT®, the engine benefits from D-Step logic programming that mimics traditional gear changes under acceleration. Steering wheel paddle shifters add manual control, while Intelligent Trace Control and selectable Eco/Sport modes fine-tune the drive based on conditions.
