Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve 

Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve is located at 10410 Hague Road. It features a mixture of different biomes, including prairies, wetlands, and swamps. It has a large shelter that you can gather with your family for eating a picnic lunch or cooking on a fire pit. There is a gravel path that goes to the boardwalk that overlooks some incredible sights. There are several different trails that you can explore by hiking. 

Flowing Well Park 

Located at 5100 E 116th Street, Flowing Well Park features an artesian well, where you can fill up a water bottle or other container with fresh water. The park is somewhat hidden off of 16th Street. Many locals who spend time at the park consider it a hidden gem. You can bring your leashed dogs to join you in your exploration of the park. 

Founders Park 

Founders Park is located at 11675 Hazel Dell Parkway. The main highlight of this park is the large sand playground. Many families bring their own sand toys and buckets to let little ones explore the sand. There is a large pavilion with picnic tables where you can enjoy lunch or relax. There are also places to fish around the park. 

River Road Park 

Located at 12575 River Road, River Road Park is a fun park for the entire family. There is a large green space where you can toss a frisbee or ball around. There is a rock climbing hill, as well as a rope and other climbing structures that you can use. It is an interactive park where you can learn more about people that once lived in the Prairie. This makes it an ideal place to bring homeschoolers or school-age children. 

West Commons Playground & Splash Pad 

West Commons Playground & Splash Pad is located at 920 Central Park Drive West, in nearby Carmel. It features a massive playground and splash pad that make it a dream for young children everywhere. There is fun climbing gear, an aquatic park, and a skate park. Some of the facilities have different hours than others, so it is important to check with the facility before you go.
