1. Fort Harrison State Park

Spanning a territory of about 1,700 acres, Fort Harrison State Park is a well-known weekend destination among residents of Indianapolis, Fishers, and other towns and cities in the region.
Welcoming almost 900,000 visitors each year, Fort Harrison State Park is a place where you can easily spend an entire day hiking or simply enjoying a picnic away from the urban bustle. This nature reserve is located a little under nine miles south of downtown Fishers and can be reached in about 20 minutes by car along Cumberland Road. Fort Harrison State Park offers excellent opportunities for hiking, biking, wildlife watching, and fishing.
2. Summit Lake State Park
Receiving about 235,000 visitors annually, Summit Lake State Park is another great destination to spend a fun weekend with your family or friends. Sitting along the shores of Summit Lake, this nature reserve covers an area of almost 2,700 acres and was established in 1998 by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Popular activities include boating, hiking, picnicking, and swimming.
Summit Lake State Park is located about 45 miles east of downtown Fishers and can be reached in less than 50 minutes by car via routes I-69 and US-36. Although this nature reserve can be easily visited as part of a day trip from the city, fully equipped camping facilities are also available for those wanting to stay overnight. This state park also features a shelter house and designated picnic areas.
3. Mounds State Park
Located just 27 miles northeast of downtown Fishers, Mounds State Park is an interesting destination that attracts visitors from all over the state. Featuring ten Native American ceremonial mounds constructed by prehistoric Adena tribes, this state park is a place where you can learn more about the indigenous people that once inhabited the area while enjoying the beautiful natural surroundings.
