Check Your Tires
You should be checking your tires year-round—about once a month, ideally. You need to be even more diligent about checking them when transitional seasons like spring and fall come around.
As the seasons change, the air pressure outside changes as well, and this will affect your tires. You’ll need to check their pressure a little more regularly during the fall for this reason. Don’t forget to also take a look at their treads and have them rotated or replaced as needed.
Check Your Battery
As the air cools down with the approach of winter, your battery could be affected. Most car batteries last around 3 to 5 years before needing to be replaced, so you should be checking it at least annually.
The fall is a great time to do this. If it turns out that your battery needs to be replaced because it’s old or showing signs of damage, you’ll be able to get this done before the cold really kicks in which could cause further issues for an old or defective battery.
Test Your Wiper Blades
The wiper blades on your car will generally last a few years. If it’s been a while since you last replaced them, then it’s time to take a look at them.
If your wiper blades do need to be replaced, then make sure you do that right away. You’ll want them functioning fully when the snow hits so you don’t lose visibility on the road.
Get Your Oil Changed
You should get your vehicle’s engine oil changed around every 3,000 to 6,000 miles to keep your car running smoothly. This usually works out to about twice a year. When you’re doing your fall maintenance, this is a great opportunity for you to get your oil changed.
You should always visit your dealership to have this done. They’ll make sure that your oil change is done correctly, and they can inspect other parts of your car at the same time if you bring it in for servicing. This will ensure that your car is safe to drive and in good condition.
